Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यदा धर्मो ग्लायति वै सुराणां तदा कृष्णो जायते मानुषेषु ।
धर्मे स्थित्वा स तु वै भावितात्मा परांश्च लोकानपरांश्च याति ॥ ११ ॥

yadā dharmo glāyati vai surāṇāṃ tadā kṛṣṇo jāyate mānuṣeṣu |
dharme sthitvā sa tu vai bhāvitātmā parāṃśca lokānaparāṃśca yāti || 11 ||
