Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ते चेन्मनुष्यतां यान्ति यदा कालस्य पर्ययात् ।
धनरिक्ते कुले जन्म लभन्ते स्वल्पबुद्धयः ॥ १४ ॥

te cenmanuṣyatāṃ yānti yadā kālasya paryayāt |
dhanarikte kule janma labhante svalpabuddhayaḥ || 14 ||
