Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. प्रीताश्च देवता नित्यमिन्द्रे परिददत्युत ।
अन्नं ददाति शक्रश्चाप्यनुगृह्णन्निमाः प्रजाः ॥ ३७ ॥
