Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. धृतराष्ट्र उवाच ।
किं तस्यां मम सेनायां नासन्केचिन्महारथाः ।
ये तथा सात्यकिं यान्तं नैवाघ्नन्नाप्यवारयन् ॥ १ ॥

kiṃ tasyāṃ mama senāyāṃ nāsankecinmahārathāḥ |
