The Garga-samhita Verse 1.9.8, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 1 of Chapter 9 (Description of Vasudeva’s Wedding) of Canto 1 (goloka-khanda).

श्री-नारद उवाच
कृत्वा तदैव पुरि निश्चय-नागवल्लिं
श्री-देवकः सकल-धर्म-भृतां वरिष्ठः
गर्गेच्छया तु वसुदेव-वराय पुत्रीं
कृत्वाथ मङ्गलम् अलं प्रददौ विवाहे

śrī-nārada uvāca
kṛtvā tadaiva puri niścaya-nāgavalliṃ
śrī-devakaḥ sakala-dharma-bhṛtāṃ variṣṭhaḥ
gargecchayā tu vasudeva-varāya putrīṃ
kṛtvātha maṅgalam alaṃ pradadau vivāhe

śrī-nāradaḥ uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; kṛtvā—having done; tadāthen; eva—indeed; puriin the city; niścayadecision; nāgavallim—betelnuts; śrī-devakaḥŚrī Devaka; sakalaall; dharmaof religious principles; bhṛtām—of they who possess; variṣṭhaḥthe best; gargaof Garga Muni; icchayā—by the desire; tu—indeed; vasudeva-varāya—to Vasudeva; putrīm—daughter; kṛtvā—doing; athathen; maṅgalam—auspiciousness; alamgreat; pradadau—gave; vivāhe—in marriage.

English translation of verse 1.9.8:

Śrī Nārada said: After offering (the sage) betelnuts to show his assent, Śrī Devaka, who was the best of all pious men, performed the auspicious ceremonies and gave his daughter in marriage to Vasudeva according to Garga Muni's desire.
