This Sanskrit edition of the Bhagavatapurana. It is one of the traditional eighteen Mahapuranas presented as an encyclopedia of ancient Indian history and knowledge. The extant edition contains 12 books originally written in 18,000 Sanskrit verses

देवासुरे युधि च दैत्यपतीन् सुरार्थे ।
हत्वान्तरेषु भुवनानि अदधात् कलाभिः ।
भूत्वाथ वामन इमामहरद् बलेः क्ष्मां ।
याच्ञाच्छलेन समदाद् अदितेः सुतेभ्यः ॥ २० ॥

devāsure yudhi ca daityapatīn surārthe |
hatvāntareṣu bhuvanāni adadhāt kalābhiḥ |
bhūtvātha vāmana imāmaharad baleḥ kṣmāṃ |
