The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 13.65

क्षमाशिफो धैर्यविगाढमूलश्चारित्रपुष्पः स्मृतिबुद्धिशाखः ।
ज्ञानद्रुमो धर्मफलप्रदाता नोत्पाटनं ह्यर्हति वर्धमानः ॥ ६५ ॥

kṣamāśipho dhairyavigāḍhamūlaścāritrapuṣpaḥ smṛtibuddhiśākhaḥ |
jñānadrumo dharmaphalapradātā notpāṭanaṃ hyarhati vardhamānaḥ || 65 ||

'The tree of knowledge, whose roots go deep in firmness, and whose fibres are patience,—whose flowers are moral actions and whose branches are memory and thought,—and which gives out the law as its fruit,—surely when it is growing it should not be cut down.
