The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 2.42

कृतागसो ऽपि प्रतिपाद्य वध्यान्नाजीघनन्नापि रुषा ददर्श ।
बबन्ध सान्त्वेन फलेन चैतांस्त्यागो ऽपि तेषां ह्यनपायदृष्टः ॥ ४२ ॥

kṛtāgaso 'pi pratipādya vadhyānnājīghanannāpi ruṣā dadarśa |
babandha sāntvena phalena caitāṃstyāgo 'pi teṣāṃ hyanapāyadṛṣṭaḥ || 42 ||

Guilty persons, even though he had sentenced them to death, he did not cause to be killed nor even looked on them with anger; he bound them with gentle words and with the reform produced in their character,—even their release was accompanied by no inflicted injury.
