by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.487

कवचितो सदा भोति लक्षणेहि यथा गगणं प्रतिपूरं तारकेहि ।
स मधुरवचनो मनोज्ञघोषो जिनवरधर्म धारेत्व लुज्जमानं ॥ ४८७ ॥

kavacito sadā bhoti lakṣaṇehi yathā gagaṇaṃ pratipūraṃ tārakehi |
sa madhuravacano manojñaghoṣo jinavaradharma dhāretva lujjamānaṃ || 487 ||

Whoso supports the dharma of the noble Conqueror when it is breaking up, always becomes arrayed in marks of excellence as the sky is bespangled with stars. (487)
