This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 54.12

गृह्णीय पुरिमं कायं पृष्ठिमं परिगृह्णति ।
यदा उत्थासि वेगेन सुखेन प्रपते मुनि ॥ १२ ॥

gṛhṇīya purimaṃ kāyaṃ pṛṣṭhimaṃ parigṛhṇati |
yadā utthāsi vegena sukhena prapate muni || 12 ||

When he sought to grasp the front of his body, it was his back that he held in his grasp; when the Seer tried to stand up he precipitately fell forwards. (12)
