by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 2.31

ये च पापानि कर्माणि परिवर्जन्ति योनिशः ।
एकान्तकुशलाचारा न ते गच्छन्ति दुर्गतिं ॥ ३१ ॥

ekāntakuśalācārā na te gacchanti durgatiṃ || 31 ||

Those who wholly eschew sinful deeds, those whose conduct is wholly virtuous do not pass to the bourne of ill. (31)
