Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

महारामायणप्रायशास्त्रप्रेक्षणमात्रतः ।
एतदासाद्यते नित्यं किमेतावति दुष्करम् ॥ २५ ॥

mahārāmāyaṇaprāyaśāstraprekṣaṇamātrataḥ |
etadāsādyate nityaṃ kimetāvati duṣkaram || 25 ||
