223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.119.8

इदं रम्यमिदं नेति बीजं ते दुःखसंततेः ।
तस्मिन्साम्याग्निना दग्धे दुःखस्यावसरः कुतः ॥ ८ ॥

idaṃ ramyamidaṃ neti bījaṃ te duḥkhasaṃtateḥ |
tasminsāmyāgninā dagdhe duḥkhasyāvasaraḥ kutaḥ || 8 ||

The idea that this is pleasurable and the other is painful, being the sole cause of all pains and anxiety, it is the consuming of these feelings by the fire of our indifference to them, that prevents the access of pain and affliction unto us.
