The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.34.73

अविद्यैकात्मभिर्द्रव्यैरविद्यामयमङ्गकम् ।
अज्ञेन संतर्पयता किं नाम गुरुणा कृतम् ॥ ७३ ॥

avidyaikātmabhirdravyairavidyāmayamaṅgakam |
ajñena saṃtarpayatā kiṃ nāma guruṇā kṛtam || 73 ||

Ignorance of the soul leads to the serving of the dull ignorant body, with articles of food and raiment; and it was thus that our ignorant elders pampered their bodies for no lasting good.
