223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.38.11

न वासनामये स्पन्दरसे गज इव पल्वले मज्जति तज्ज्ञो मूर्खमनोभोगभूमिमेव पश्यति न सत्तत्त्वं ॥ ११ ॥

na vāsanāmaye spandarase gaja iva palvale majjati tajjño mūrkhamanobhogabhūmimeva paśyati na sattattvaṃ || 11 ||

But the ignorant mind (which is unacquainted with this state of transport) is transported by its thirst after the moving waters of earthly pleasures; as an elephant is misled to the foul pool, where he is plunged in its mud and mire, without finding any thing that is really good.
