The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

कथ्यते जीवनाम्नैतच्चित्तं प्रतनुवासनम् ।
शान्तदेहचमत्कारं जीवं विद्धि क्रमात्परम् ॥ २३ ॥

kathyate jīvanāmnaitaccittaṃ pratanuvāsanam |
śāntadehacamatkāraṃ jīvaṃ viddhi kramātparam || 23 ||

The self same mind is termed also the living principle said:—Jiva (Zoa), when it is combined with its purer desires; and is to be known after all to be bodiless and unknown in its nature.
