The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.3.3

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
पूर्वदेहोऽस्ति यस्याद्य पूर्वकर्मसमन्वितः ।
तस्य स्मृतिः संभवति कारणं संसृतिस्थितेः ॥ ३ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
pūrvadeho'sti yasyādya pūrvakarmasamanvitaḥ |
tasya smṛtiḥ saṃbhavati kāraṇaṃ saṃsṛtisthiteḥ || 3 ||

Vasishtha replied:—Whoever had a former body, accompanied with the acts of his prior existence, retains of course its reminiscence, which is the cause of his being.
