Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स तथोक्तस्तथेत्युक्त्वा विष्णुं कृत्वा शरोत्तमम् ।
शल्यमग्निं तथा कृत्वा पुङ्खं वैवस्वतं यमम् ।
वेदान्कृत्वा धनुः सर्वाञ्ज्यां च सावित्रिमुत्तमाम् ॥ २७ ॥

sa tathoktastathetyuktvā viṣṇuṃ kṛtvā śarottamam |
śalyamagniṃ tathā kṛtvā puṅkhaṃ vaivasvataṃ yamam |
vedānkṛtvā dhanuḥ sarvāñjyāṃ ca sāvitrimuttamām || 27 ||
