Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. पाणिग्रहीता चान्यः स्यादत्र नो धर्मसंशयः ।
तन्नश्छिन्धि महाप्राज्ञ त्वं हि वै प्राज्ञसंमतः ।
तत्त्वं जिज्ञासमानानां चक्षुर्भवतु नो भवान् ॥ ४८ ॥

tannaśchindhi mahāprājña tvaṃ hi vai prājñasaṃmataḥ |
tattvaṃ jijñāsamānānāṃ cakṣurbhavatu no bhavān || 48 ||
