Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. विश्वामित्रः स्थूलशिराः संवर्तः प्रमतिर्दमः ।
उशना बृहस्पतिर्व्यासश्च्यवनः काश्यपो ध्रुवः ॥ ५ ॥
