Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. बालेन्दुमुकुटं पाण्डुं शरच्चन्द्रमिवोदितम् ।
त्रिभिर्नेत्रैः कृतोद्द्योतं त्रिभिः सूर्यैरिवोदितैः ॥ ११९ ॥

bālendumukuṭaṃ pāṇḍuṃ śaraccandramivoditam |
tribhirnetraiḥ kṛtoddyotaṃ tribhiḥ sūryairivoditaiḥ || 119 ||
