Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. न ह्यस्त्यविदितं लोके देवर्षे तव किंचन ।
श्रुतं वाप्यनुभूतं वा दृष्टं वा कथयस्व मे ॥ ९ ॥

na hyastyaviditaṃ loke devarṣe tava kiṃcana |
śrutaṃ vāpyanubhūtaṃ vā dṛṣṭaṃ vā kathayasva me || 9 ||
