Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. कृषिगोरक्ष्यवाणिज्यं यो विशत्यनिशं शुचिः ।
वेदाध्ययनसंपन्नः स वैश्य इति संज्ञितः ॥ ६ ॥

kṛṣigorakṣyavāṇijyaṃ yo viśatyaniśaṃ śuciḥ |
vedādhyayanasaṃpannaḥ sa vaiśya iti saṃjñitaḥ || 6 ||
