Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यथाश्वमेधावभृथे स्नाताः पूता भवन्त्युत ।
दुष्कृतः सुकृतश्चैव तथा शस्त्रहता रणे ॥ ३० ॥

yathāśvamedhāvabhṛthe snātāḥ pūtā bhavantyuta |
duṣkṛtaḥ sukṛtaścaiva tathā śastrahatā raṇe || 30 ||
