Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. विपताकाध्वजच्छत्रा व्यश्वसूतायुधा रणे ।
व्यङ्गाङ्गावयवाः पेतुः क्षितौ क्षीणा हतेश्वराः ॥ ५० ॥
