hi-yasmāt, vyādhikliṣṭaśarīrasya puṃsaḥ so'tiśayena pīḍākaraḥ| prāgutpanno'pi rogaḥ pīḍākaraḥ| upadravastu paścājjāyamāno vyādhikliṣṭaśarīrotpannatvātpīḍākarataraḥ| tadayamatrārthaḥ,-paratantro vyādhirhīnabalaḥ pradhānopakrameṇaivopaśāmyati| yastu paratantraḥ paścādutpadyamāno'pi svatantravyādhyupakrameṇa śamaṃ na yāti taṃ paścādupakramet| yastu balavān paratantrastamādāveva cikitset, atipīḍākaratvāt|

sa hi svatantreṇa pīḍitasya narasya svatantrādatipīḍakaḥ| saṅgrahe tu (sū. a. 22) - "satpavidhāḥ khalu rogā bhavanti| sahagarbhajātapīḍākālaprabhāvasvabhāvajāḥ| te tu pṛthagddhividhāḥ| tatra sahajāḥ śukrārtavadoṣānvayāḥ kuṣṭhārśomehādayaḥ, pitṛjā mātṛjāśca| garbhajā jananyapacārātkaubjyapāṅgulyapai!ggalyakilāsādayo, annarasajā mātṛdauhṛdavimānajāśca| jātajāḥ svāpacārāt santarpaṇajā apatarpaṇajāśca| pīḍājāḥ kṣatabha!ggaprahārakrodhaśokabhayādayaḥ, śārīrāmānasāśca| kālajāḥ śītādikṛtā jvarādayo, vyāpannajā asaṃrakṣaṇajāśca| prabhāvajā devagurulaṅanaśāpātharvaṇādikṛtāḥ, jvarādayaḥ piśācādayaśca| svabhāvajāḥ kṣutpipāsājarādayaḥ, kālajā akālajāśca| tatra kālajā rakṣaṇakṛtāḥ, arakṣaṇajā akālajāḥ ta ete samāsataḥ punardvividhā bhavanti,pratyutpannakarmajāśca| tatra rogotpattiṃ pratyutpannaṃ karma yadanenaiva śarīreṇa ddaṣṭamaddaṣṭaṃ voddiśyātpopadiṣṭapratiṣiddhānāmananuṣṭhānamanuṣṭhānaṃ | janmāntarātītena tu pūrvam| tatpunardaivākhyam, uktaṃ ca niyatāniyatabhedena prāk| tasmāt ddaṣṭahetavaḥ pratyutpannakarmajāḥ| viparītā daivajanmānaḥ| alpa nidānā mahārujaścobhayātmakāḥ| tatra yathāsvaṃ pratipakṣaśīlanāt pūrveṣāṃ rogāṇāmupaśamaḥ| satyeva vipakṣaśīlane nirdiṣṭakarmakṣayāddvaivikānām| doṣakarmakṣayādanyeṣām| anye punaḥ pratyutpannaṃ karma parakṛtamapi varṇayanti| tacca parābhisaṃskāramācakṣate| evaṃ cāhaḥ,-yadi svayaṃ kṛtādeva karmaṇaḥ kāryanirvṛttiḥ syāt, na ddaṣṭapuruṣāntarakṛtāt| kimiti vidvānapi parācaritayorupakārāpakārayoḥ sukhaduḥkhānurodhāttoṣaroṣau praikartavyavintāṃ pratipedyate| evamete vyādhayo dvividhāḥ santasnividhā jāyante| tataśca doṣavanto bhūyaḥ saptavidhāḥ| sakalo'pi cāyaṃ rogasamūhaḥ pratīkāravān āyurvedavihitamupadeśamapekṣate| yasmānniyatahetuko'pyāmayaḥ samyagbhiṣagādeśānuṣṭhānādupāttāyuḥ saṃskārāparikṣaye sahyavedanatāṃ pratipadyate| anuprakramyamāṇastu sarva eva prāyaśo bhinattyakāṇḍe| svayamapi ca daivānnidānālpatayā nivartamānaḥ ṣoḍaśaguṇasamuditakriyopālambhādāśutaramapai parikliṣṭasya vā'pagacchati| aniyataphaladāyini tu daive hitābhyāsaratasyāvakāśameva na labhate vyādhiḥ| tasmānna kasyāñcidavasthāyāmātmavān hitāhitayostulyadarśī syāt| trividhāśca punarvyādhayo mṛdumadhyātimātrabhedena| tatrālpalakṣaṇā mṛdavo, madhyalakṣaṇā madhyāḥ, sampūrṇalakṣaṇāstvatimātāḥ| te punaḥ sukhasādhyādiviśeṣeṇa caturdhā prāgupadiṣṭāḥ| subahuśo'pi ca bhidyamānā vyādhyayo nijāgantutāṃ na vyabhicaranti| tatra nijāsnidoṣotthāḥ| teṣu pūrvaṃ vātādayo vaiṣamyamāpadyante tato vyathābhinivartate| bāhyahetujāstvāgantavaḥ| teṣu vyathā pūrvamupajāyate, tato doṣavaiṣamyam| doṣavaiṣamyeṇaiva ca bahurūpā rudanubadhyate, tato doṣavaiṣamyam| doṣavaiṣamyeṇaiva ca bahurūpā ruganubadhhyate pravarddhate ca| evaṃ ca kṛtvā na doṣavyatirekeṇa rogānubanddhaḥ, kevalaṃ paurvāparyaviśeṣaḥ| tasmādekākārā eva rogāḥ, tathārukasāmānyāt| asaṅkhyabhedā pratyekaṃ samutthānasthānasaṃsthānavarṇanāmavedanāprabhāvopakramaviśeṣāt| te yathāsthūlaṃ yathāsvamevopadekṣyante| asaṅkhayeyatvācca doṣaliṅgaireva rogānupakramaṃ ca vibhajet||" iti|
