Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 95.13

जिना हि मादृशा भोन्ति ये प्राप्ता आश्रवक्षयं ।
जिता मे पापका धर्मा तस्माद् अहं उपक जिनो ॥ १३ ॥

jinā hi mādṛśā bhonti ye prāptā āśravakṣayaṃ |
jitā me pāpakā dharmā tasmād ahaṃ upaka jino || 13 ||

They are, like me, Conquerors, who have achieved the destruction of the ashravas. Evil things have I overcome, and hence, O Upaka, am I a Conqueror. (13)
