by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 30.51

शमिताविं प्रहाय पुण्यपापं भवसंयोजनसंक्षये रतं ।
शान्तं सुविभक्तमानसं तं जनो गरहति अनंगनं ॥ ५१ ॥

śamitāviṃ prahāya puṇyapāpaṃ bhavasaṃyojanasaṃkṣaye rataṃ |
śāntaṃ suvibhaktamānasaṃ taṃ jano garahati anaṃganaṃ || 51 ||

Him, the sinless, do these men revile, him who is tranquil, who has abandoned sin, who rejoices in the falling off of the fetters of existence, who is calm and well-controlled in mind. (51)
