Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 18.21

यथेच्छकं अरणसमाधि शान्तर + + + देवनरेषु अर्चित ।
निषेवसे काञ्चनदामप्रभः नमो ऽस्तु ते गौतम सत्यविक्रम ॥ २१ ॥

yathecchakaṃ araṇasamādhi śāntara + + + devanareṣu arcita |
niṣevase kāñcanadāmaprabhaḥ namo 'stu te gautama satyavikrama || 21 ||

Just as thy wish is, thou that art extolled of devas and men, thou dost ensue, with all thy heart, solitude and concentration; thou art resplendent as a garland of gold. Homage then, to thee, O truly valiant Gotama. (21)
