Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 18.20

चित्तस्थितित्वे असि पारमिंगतो वशी समाधिस्मि तथापि पुद्गल ।
चित्ते वशी त्वं वशितां परां गतः वंकावकाशा विगतो विरोचसे ॥ २० ॥

cittasthititve asi pāramiṃgato vaśī samādhismi tathāpi pudgala |
citte vaśī tvaṃ vaśitāṃ parāṃ gataḥ vaṃkāvakāśā vigato virocase || 20 ||

Thus, too, O Man, thou hast gained mastery of concentration and of thought. Thou hast reached perfect mastery. Far removed from the sphere of evil, thou shinest forth. (20)
