by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 9.15

अपरतीर्थिकमतं श्रुत्वावज्ञा प्रतिष्ठते ।
उन्नताध्याशयास् तेन नरसिंहा भवन्ति ते ति ॥ १५ ॥

aparatīrthikamataṃ śrutvāvajñā pratiṣṭhate |
unnatādhyāśayās tena narasiṃhā bhavanti te ti || 15 ||

When they hear a heretic, they ignore him and go their way. Thus are the dispositions of these lion-hearted men lofty. (15)
