The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.157.17

प्राथम्येनैव यद्ब्रह्म जीवतामिव गच्छति ।
तदैव बुद्ध्या भोक्ता तज्जातिः सात्त्विकसात्त्विकी ॥ १७ ॥

prāthamyenaiva yadbrahma jīvatāmiva gacchati |
tadaiva buddhyā bhoktā tajjātiḥ sāttvikasāttvikī || 17 ||

The spirit of God being blown at first as the living soul (in an animal body); the soul that comes to perceive its incarceration in flesh and its doom to suffering, is said to be of the pure nature of sattiki.
