The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.142.41

सर्गे सर्गतया रूढे भवेत्प्राक्कर्मकल्पना ।
पश्चाज्जीवा भ्रमन्तीमे कर्मपाशवशीकृताः ॥ ४१ ॥

sarge sargatayā rūḍhe bhavetprākkarmakalpanā |
paścājjīvā bhramantīme karmapāśavaśīkṛtāḥ || 41 ||

It is a mere supposition, that they had their causal acts at first creation; and that all living beings have been roving ever since (in repeated births), being fast bound by the chain of their prior acts.
