The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.8.20

असत्यमेव स्फुरति सर्वमस्ति च नास्ति च ।
असदुत्थित एवायं कुतोपीव समुत्थितः ॥ २० ॥

asatyameva sphurati sarvamasti ca nāsti ca |
asadutthita evāyaṃ kutopīva samutthitaḥ || 20 ||

It is the apparition of an unreality, and is present in appearance but absent in substance; it is verily the appearance of an unreality, by whatever cause it may have come to appear. (The Cause is said to be the original ignorance or delusion.
