The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.6.38

कण्टकश्चैति पयसो दूर्वाङ्कुर इव स्थलात् ।
देहशाल्मलिभोगिन्यो मनोमातङ्गश्रृंखलाः ॥ ३८ ॥

kaṇṭakaścaiti payaso dūrvāṅkura iva sthalāt |
dehaśālmalibhoginyo manomātaṅgaśrṛṃkhalāḥ || 38 ||

As the watering of the ground, tends to the growth of grass and thorns and thistles; so the fostering of the body, breeds the desires in the heart, as thick as reptiles grow in the hollow of trees; and they invigorate the mind in the form of a rampant lion or elephant.
