The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

सोऽस्मदारम्भ एवातः कः खेदोल्लासयोः क्रमः ।
मत्सखासुखविस्तारे जगज्जालक्षयोदये ॥ ४० ॥

so'smadārambha evātaḥ kaḥ khedollāsayoḥ kramaḥ |
matsakhāsukhavistāre jagajjālakṣayodaye || 40 ||

Knowing ourselves to be the authors of our own happiness and misery, and as causes of the rise and dissolution of the world from our view, we have no reason to be joyous or sorry in it.
