The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

भावयन्ती चितिश्चेत्यं व्यतिरिक्तमिवात्मनः ।
संकल्पतामुपायाति बीजमङ्कुरतामिव ॥ ४ ॥

bhāvayantī citiścetyaṃ vyatiriktamivātmanaḥ |
saṃkalpatāmupāyāti bījamaṅkuratāmiva || 4 ||

Remaining in the divine Intellect, the mind thinks of thinkables, as they are distinct from itself; and its longing after them is called its desire, which springs from it as a germ from its seed.
