The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

स्वरूपमत्यजन्नेव विरूपमपि बुध्यते ।
स्वयैव वासनाभ्रान्त्या सत्ययेवाप्यसत्यया ॥ ३२ ॥

svarūpamatyajanneva virūpamapi budhyate |
svayaiva vāsanābhrāntyā satyayevāpyasatyayā || 32 ||

It is because of the wrong desire of a man that he takes the untruth for truth, as if by the excessive thirst of a person, that he mistakes the mirage for water, and thereby loses both his way and his life.
