सना॑ पुरा॒णमध्ये॑म्या॒रान्म॒हः पि॒तुर्ज॑नि॒तुर्जा॒मि तन्न॑: । दे॒वासो॒ यत्र॑ पनि॒तार॒ एवै॑रु॒रौ प॒थि व्यु॑ते त॒स्थुर॒न्तः ॥
सना पुराणमध्येम्यारान्महः पितुर्जनितुर्जामि तन्नः । देवासो यत्र पनितार एवैरुरौ पथि व्युते तस्थुरन्तः ॥
sanā purāṇam adhy emy ārān mahaḥ pitur janitur jāmi tan naḥ | devāso yatra panitāra evair urau pathi vyute tasthur antaḥ ||
English translation:
“I consider at present the eternal and ancient sisterhood to us of you, our great protectress and progenitrix, within whose vast and separated path your eulogists, the gods, travel in their chariots.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Protectress and progenitrix: mahaḥ pitur janitur jāmi tan naḥ = mahatyaḥ pālayitryaḥ janayitryastava, of you, that is, of the heaven;
Jāmi = jāmitva, or bhaginitvam, sisterhood, the condition of a relative sister; this will not allow of pitā and janitā being rendered father and progenitor
