Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अभिवाद्य च तं देवा दृष्ट्वा च यशसा वृतम् ।
इदमूचुर्महात्मानं वाक्यं काले जनाधिप ॥ ५ ॥

abhivādya ca taṃ devā dṛṣṭvā ca yaśasā vṛtam |
idamūcurmahātmānaṃ vākyaṃ kāle janādhipa || 5 ||
