Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यावदक्षिनिमेषाणि ज्वलते तावतीः समाः ।
रूपवान्धनवांश्चापि नरो भवति दीपदः ॥ ३७ ॥

yāvadakṣinimeṣāṇi jvalate tāvatīḥ samāḥ |
rūpavāndhanavāṃścāpi naro bhavati dīpadaḥ || 37 ||
