Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तेषामभ्यस्यतां वेदान्कदाचित्संशयोऽभवत् ।
एष वै यस्त्वया पृष्टस्तेन तेषां प्रकीर्तितः ।
ततः श्रुतो मया चापि तवाख्येयोऽद्य भारत ॥ १९ ॥

teṣāmabhyasyatāṃ vedānkadācitsaṃśayo'bhavat |
eṣa vai yastvayā pṛṣṭastena teṣāṃ prakīrtitaḥ |
tataḥ śruto mayā cāpi tavākhyeyo'dya bhārata || 19 ||
