Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. विद्या कर्म च शौर्यं च ज्ञानं च बहुविस्तरम् ।
अर्थार्थमनुसार्यन्ते सिद्धार्थस्तु विमुच्यते ॥ ३६ ॥

vidyā karma ca śauryaṃ ca jñānaṃ ca bahuvistaram |
arthārthamanusāryante siddhārthastu vimucyate || 36 ||
