Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ततो ज्ञात्वा हतामित्रं धर्मराजं युधिष्ठिरम् ।
गान्धारी पुत्रशोकार्ता शप्तुमैच्छदनिन्दिता ॥ २ ॥

tato jñātvā hatāmitraṃ dharmarājaṃ yudhiṣṭhiram |
gāndhārī putraśokārtā śaptumaicchadaninditā || 2 ||
