Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. न पाण्डवा न पाञ्चाला न च केशवसात्यकी ।
जानन्ति युधि संरब्धा जीवितं परिरक्षितुम् ॥ २३ ॥

na pāṇḍavā na pāñcālā na ca keśavasātyakī |
jānanti yudhi saṃrabdhā jīvitaṃ parirakṣitum || 23 ||
