This study deals with the Catu-Bhanavara-Pali, (lit. “Text of the Four Recitals”) which in Buddhism is popularly known as “The Book of Protection”. This text, in the Pali language, represents a recital of the Dhamma meant for protection and deliverance from evil and sorrows as well as promoting welfare and well-being. The spreading time of Catubhan...

The four great kings guarded by their armies visited Buddha. After saluting him and sitting down before him the great king Vessavana told the Buddha that some of the Yakkhas did not believe in the Buddha because they did not find with pleasant or arable to abstain from things which to declare to be evil such as taking lives, robbery, theft etc.

Then the Buddha replied that his disciples hunting lonely and remote part of the forest where the Yakkhas might fight protection then Vessavana suggested that the Buddha might learn the Atanatiya sutta. The Buddha agreed andVessavana proceeded to recite it.

The Atanatiya sutta starts with giving homage to seven Buddhas beginning with Vipasi. Then the rest part contains a lots of Gods and other super -human beings, the four greatness of the four directions. Another 41 Gods are mentioned as a kind of appendix, all mentioned one after another with no attempt at group division without any details. Then the Buddha learnt the Atanatiya sutta and taught it to his monks and Atanatiya sutta is now known as paritta. It is recited at the conclusion of the paritta ceremony. Particularly at the time of illness, in order to ward off the evil spirits. A list of paritta is found in the Milinda panha also.

Parittas, or prayers for safety which have been included in the Buddhist cult is a unique inclusion without which Buddhist dhamma remains incomplete. There are various parittas of various aspects which presented different forms and these form are not just speeches but they express psychic suffusion which are an intermingling of thought, physical action, motion, intellect and forces of life. They are bestowed with effective power of healing, protection and truth.

The Buddhist teachers or we can say the teachers who are the followers of the successful Dhamma are full of wisdom and are definitely above all prejudices and certain traditions. They adopted the rakkha mantra contained in this paritta. They cry out for help to overcome sickness [The simple ritual is described in Spence Hardy’s Eastern Monachism]. There are many guarding ruins which are also included in Buddhist doctrines are in complete harmony with a theistic religion. These religion resume not only bestowed with harmful powers but are also encumbered with good wishes and an overspreading love. Naturally we have an overwhelming effect of rendering homage and faith so that we do not ourselves completely fall prey into the hands of malignant sprits and beast. By this one thing, it can be concluded that the Buddhist idea for bringing about law and order along with happiness and peace is called dhamma which is a major thing to be practiced in the paritta, which brings about the knowledge of eternal truth and moral cosmic order.

This faith or belief can be compared to an iron gallon jar which can be emptied and refilled numerous times with varying contents. It is more or less pattern of progress which can be easily interpreted as moral law and can be well described as a weaving web by living creature. This web however based on faith which brings about happiness, unhappiness and evils and the result is so effective that beside effecting one’s deed’s and speech it also effects the feeling, will and thought process.

Hebrew prophet is a fine example of Buddhist inspiration, who followed the lessons of lord Buddha following and realizing the power of their own karma that leads to the attainment of both human and non-human.

The utterance of the Paritta are so effective that they work beyond the medical art and keep them away from harm. Idol worship lost its importance as paritta influences effective Aaron benediction of Israel is also influenced by the Paritta which presents the teachers as the most powerful, bestowed with the goodness of his savior the truth of the Dhamma which has power to turn a foe into friend and drive out all fear giving aid and sense of security. This sutta has great importance in the history of India.

This sutta specially known as protection shield on Paritta Sutta. This sutta is chanted in a form of rythm + node + composition. The sweetness of it charms the surrounding as music which is a magic. Moreover the music of that sutta establishes high level spiritual atmosphere when chanted. It can keep all bad things far away. As reason, we can say that the emanating sound produces energy which give healing sensation and its feeling can be measured. This sound is a form of natural energy and it is produced through vibrations. That is why, when this sutta is chanted in a musical form, it creates a magical effect by its comforting abilities on hearing. It brought welfare to the human civilization since ancient time till date.
