by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 54.2

कालाशीतको सर्वो व एवं अंगानि से अभूत् ।
विष्कम्भे यथोष्ट्रपदं हनुका से तदा अभू ॥ २ ॥

kālāśītako sarvo va evaṃ aṃgāni se abhūt |
viṣkambhe yathoṣṭrapadaṃ hanukā se tadā abhū || 2 ||

Wholly like a shrivelled creeper did his body become, and his jaw like a buffalo’s hoof in diameter. (2)
