This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 2.26

ततो क्षता च आर्ता च बहुरुधिरम्रक्षिता ।
असिपत्रवना मुक्ताः यान्ति वैतरणीं नदीं ॥ २६ ॥

tato kṣatā ca ārtā ca bahurudhiramrakṣitā |
asipatravanā muktāḥ yānti vaitaraṇīṃ nadīṃ || 26 ||

When they have escaped from the sword-leafed forest, wounded, racked, and steeped in blood, they go to the river Vaitarani. (26)
