223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.17.22

सुवर्णं न स्थितिं याति मलवत्यंशुके यथा ।
एका दृष्टिः स्थितिं याति न म्लाने चित्तके तथा ॥ २२ ॥

suvarṇaṃ na sthitiṃ yāti malavatyaṃśuke yathā |
ekā dṛṣṭiḥ sthitiṃ yāti na mlāne cittake tathā || 22 ||

As the gilding of gold or any brilliant colour, cannot stand on base metal or on a piece of dirty cloth, so it is impossible for the vitiated mind, to apply itself intensely to any one particular object.
