The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

पुष्पाणि तरुखण्डेषु भूतानि भुवनेषु च ।
स्वयमायान्ति यान्तीह कल्पते हेतुनामभिः ॥ ३३ ॥

puṣpāṇi tarukhaṇḍeṣu bhūtāni bhuvaneṣu ca |
svayamāyānti yāntīha kalpate hetunāmabhiḥ || 33 ||

As flowers grow upon trees, so are animals born on earth; their growth and birth, as also their fall and death, are of their own spontaneity, and miscalled as their causality.
